Fast propagation of weakly pinned domain walls and current-assisted magnetization reversal in He+-irradiated Pt/Co/Pt nanotracks

چکیده
Magnetic-domain-wall propagation is experimentally studied in nanotracks etched in ultrathin Pt/Co/Pt films with out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy, where pinning has been artificially reduced by low-dose He-irradiation. Fast domainwall propagation is demonstrated in such tracks under low magnetic fields, not greater than the fields necessary to make a domain wall propagate in the He-irradiated plain films before patterning. A strong further enhancement of the track-magnetization reversal speed is obtained thanks to a Joule-heating-induced thermomagnetic effect, by applying magnetic-field and electrical-current pulses simultaneously to the track. Magnetic relaxation measurements of exchange biased (Pt/Co) multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy
Magnetic relaxation measurements were carried out by magneto-optical Kerr effect on exchange biased (Pt/Co)5/Pt/FeMn multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy. In these films the coercivity and the exchange bias field vary with Pt spacer thickness, and have a maximum for 0.2 nm. Hysteresis loops do not reveal important differences between the reversal for ascending and descending fields. Relaxa...
متن کاملMagnetic Force Microscopy of Nanostructured Co/Pt Multilayer Films with Perpendicular Magnetization
We present the results of magnetic force microscopy investigations of domain structures in multilayer [Co (0.5 nm)/Pt (1 nm)]₅ thin film structures (denoted hereafter as Co/Pt) modified by additional Co capping layers and by ion irradiation. It is demonstrated that a Co capping layer essentially changes the domain structure and decreases the threshold of magnetization reversal, due to the forma...
متن کاملRole of interface coupling inhomogeneity in domain evolution in exchange bias
Models of exchange-bias in thin films have been able to describe various aspects of this technologically relevant effect. Through appropriate choices of free parameters the modelled hysteresis loops adequately match experiment, and typical domain structures can be simulated. However, the use of these parameters, notably the coupling strength between the systems' ferromagnetic (F) and antiferrom...
متن کاملDomain wall pinning in FeCoCu bamboo-like nanowires
The three dimensional nature of cylindrical magnetic nanowires has opened a new way to control the domain configuration as well as the magnetization reversal process. The pinning effect of the periodic diameter modulations on the domain wall propagation in FeCoCu individual nanowires is determined by Magnetic Force Microscopy, MFM. A main bistable magnetic configuration is firstly concluded fro...
متن کاملDomain wall resistance in (Co/Pt)10-nanowires
– The clear separation of the domain wall magnetoresistance from the anisotropic magnetoresistance has been successfully achieved by investigating the transversal magnetoresistance of individual (Co/Pt)10-nanowires. Since the magnetic easy axis of this nanowires is out of plane, the magnetization is always perpendicular to the current direction when applying a magnetic field transversally. Most...
